Description
Polycycle Thermal Insulation is a polyester insulation batt made from 80 % recycled PET bottles for walls, ceilings and floors. It contains no mineral fibre and no chemical binder, and it can be installed with bare hands. Thicknesses from 50 to 200 mm cover thermal resistance from R1.25 to R3.5.
Why Insulation Choice Matters
Most of the heat load on an air-conditioned space enters through the roof and walls, and insulating the cavity is one of the most cost-effective ways to stop it. The real question is what goes into that cavity: insulation sits above occupied rooms for the life of the building, so what it emits and what it sheds matter as much as its R-value.
Key Benefits
- Proven thermal performance — thermal conductivity λ 0.038 W/m·K, measured on a 50 mm batt at approximately 34 kg/m³ to ASTM C518-21 and AS 4859.1.
- Install with bare hands — no respirable mineral fibre, so gloves, masks and protective suits are not required.
- Nothing to emit — bonded by heat alone; formaldehyde and TVOC not detected to ASTM D6007 and ISO 16000-6.
- More R-value in shallow cavities — at 75 mm and 90 mm the High-density grade achieves a higher R-value in the same depth, ideal for low ceilings, shallow framing and retrofits.
- Moisture and mould resistant — water vapour sorption of just 0.32 % by weight and no fungal growth.
- Long service life — will not sag, settle or deteriorate, backed by a 5-year warranty under the Capiworld warranty policy.
Applications
- External and internal walls
- Ceilings and attic floors
- Suspended floors
- Timber-framed and steel-framed construction
- Residential, commercial and industrial buildings — new builds, renovations and retrofits
Which R-Value Do I Need?
| Position | Typical thickness | Typical R-value |
|---|---|---|
| Ceiling or attic floor | 150 – 200 mm | R3.0 – R3.5 |
| External wall cavity | 75 – 110 mm | R1.5 – R3.0 |
| Suspended floor | 90 – 140 mm | R2.0 – R2.5 |
Minimum R-values depend on your climate zone and building class. Confirm the requirement with your building designer or certifier.

Fire performance note: Class A under ASTM E84 is a US test classification describing the tested surface-burning behaviour of the finished product. The material is an organic polyester fibre and is not classified as non-combustible. AS/NZS 1530.3 results are indices from that test method and are not a Group Number under AS 5637.1. Confirm the requirements for your building with your certifier or fire engineer.
Specification Clause for Architects
Thermal insulation to walls, ceilings and floors shall be ECO-AEROGELS™ Polycycle Thermal Insulation ___ mm thick, declared thermal resistance R___ m²·K/W: a thermally bonded polyester fibre batt containing minimum 80 % recycled PET, free of chemical binder, with a Class A surface burning rating to ASTM E84, manufactured by Capiworld Company Limited. Install to the full depth of the framing cavity without compression, in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need gloves or a mask to install Polycycle batts?
No. Polycycle contains no respirable mineral fibre, so gloves, a mask and a protective suit are not required. Follow normal site safety practice for working in roof spaces.
What is the difference between Standard and High density grades?
At 75 mm and 90 mm, the High grade delivers a higher R-value in the same cavity depth (R2.0 and R2.5 respectively), which helps where framing is shallow or ceiling height is limited.
Will polyester insulation sag or absorb moisture?
Polycycle is thermally bonded and dimensionally stable, so it does not sag or settle. It absorbs only 0.32 % water vapour by weight and supports no fungal growth.
Is Polycycle non-combustible?
No. It is an organic polyester fibre. It achieves Flame Spread 0 / Smoke Developed 70 to ASTM E84 and indices of 0/0/0/1 to AS/NZS 1530.3. Check the fire requirements for your building with your certifier.
